Step into greatness

Reflect and Review
Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards – Søren Kierkegaard
Reflect and review

I am an avid John Maxwell student. The book that has added the most meaning to my life, is “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth”. I have studied each chapter.

In Chapter 7 John writes about “The Law of Design.” Each year, between Christmas and New Year he goes to his study and go through his year. Every appointment, every speaking engagement. He evaluates how he spent every minute of every day. And then he plans for the year that lies ahead.

When was the last time you have evaluated how and with who you spend your time?

2018 was the first year where I evaluated how I spend my time. This has helped me to step into my game-plan and greatness for 2019.

The theme for March is stepping into greatness. When I step into my greatness, I take full responsibility for my life and everything that is happening. I choose to become the victor of my circumstance and not the victim.

When I step into my greatness, I automatically give others permission to do the same.

How does one step into greatness, you may ask:

  • Become crystal clear about your goals. You cannot hit a moving target.
  • Reflect and review your life often. Then make the necessary adjustments if you don’t like where you are heading.
  • Exercise your body, mind and soul. Exercise creates the energy to move into the space of change and development.
  • Create daily awareness in your life. Become aware of your thoughts, your words and actions and change them if need be.
  • Own your truth. Be bold. Be brave. Be authentically you.

Greatness is a choice.

It is so easy to become stuck in all the things I didn’t do. To become stuck in all the wasted moments. To become stuck in the moments of regret and fear and disappointment.

But life is more than that. Life is an ever evolving, ever changing happening. You don’t need to stay stuck. You can make the choice to change your thoughts, your words, your actions and the way you live your life.

Søren Kierkegaard said, “Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards.”

Self reflection is about introspection. It is looking within to understand yourself better. To learn more about your fundamental truth, your passion and purpose and your essence.

When you reflect on past experiences, you look inside to understand yourself and the situation better. To look inward is to enable personal growth and development. To look inward is to understand life and its circumstances better.

Reflection is about developing self-awareness. By taking the time to ask important questions, you create the space to understand your emotions, your thoughts, actions and words better. Self-reflection helps you to understand your character better.

Self reflection will ask commitment to yourself. To your dreams and desires.

Self reflection will ask of you to make time daily to journal, to meditate and to pray.

Some questions to help you on this journey of self reflection:

  1. What has worked today/ this month/ this year?
  2. What didn’t work today/ this month/ this year?
  3. What lesson did I learn?
  4. How did my life evolve and change?
  5. Who made a difference in my life? Why?
  6. What am I most grateful for?
  7. When did I experience pure joy?

When you take the time to reflect on yourself, you can review where you are heading. Are you happy with your current direction in life? Are you happy with the lifestyle choices you are currently making? Are you reaching your goals?

If you don’t take the time to reflect and review your life, you wouldn’t know what changes you need to make.

By taking the time out to reflect on your life, you will connect with yourself on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

By taking the time out to reflect, you will realign with your passion and your purpose.

Reflecting will allow you to step into your greatness, because you will have intimate knowledge about yourself and your life’s direction.
